Missouri boasts a proud history of education, with 34 of its schools offering engineering programs. Most notable among these schools are the University of Missouri, Missouri University of Science and Technology, and Washington University.
While Kansas City has more engineering schools available in total, the most popular city for college in Missouri is Saint Louis, with over 106,000 students attending its schools. Following Saint Louis are Columbia and Springfield, each reporting 59,000 and 54,000 students, respectively. Saint Louis's popularity is due to it being the location for the more famous engineering schools in Missouri. Online Engineering Degrees in Missouri
Many of Missouri’s accredited colleges and universities have developed extensive online programs in recent years.
The Missouri University of Science and Technology has multiple engineering programs including online opttions, while Washington University recently expanded its online curriculum, bringing a program online as well.
Semester Online at Washington University allows students to obtain a degree from an accredited university without having to attend brick-and-mortar classes. The University of Missouri, is working on developing a rigorous online curriculum, and currently only offers a handful of online engineering courses.

The aforementioned schools all offer Bachelor’s degrees in many areas of engineering. The Missouri University of Science and Technology, Saint Louis University, University of Missouri in Columbia, and Washington University all provide Bachelor’s programs in the following areas: civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.

Two of the largest engineering firms in Missouri are Jacobs and Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co.
Jacobs is an engineering firm that offers technical professional and construction services to the following industries: oil and gas; automotive and industrial; aerospace and defense; building, and transportation, among others. Some of their services include engineering, construction, planning, program and construction management, operations management, and information technology. Of the 70,000 people working at Jacobs, about 9,000 of them are licensed engineers. Disciplines include civil, electrical, architecture and mechanical.
Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co. is an engineering company that provides construction, architecture, engineering, environmental and consulting solutions to clients in almost every market segment. Their goal is to take care of every step of the construction process. While the mechanical engineer draws up the design, the electrical engineer provides lighting and the civil engineer is completing the actual construction. Of the more than 4,160 employees at Burns & McDonnell, more than 1,000 are licensed engineers.
